“A seminar was held for the phytosanitaries of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in order to improve the management of the measures to combat the locust pests of plants. The workshop was led by experts from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) invited from Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and Azerbaijan,” - the National Food Agency reports.
Reportedly, the technical workshop was held in two sessions and included the use of the Automated System of Data Collection (ASDC) and the Caucasus and Central Asia Locust Management System (CCALM). Implementation of the mentioned systems will contribute to the improvement of pest monitoring, effective treatment of territories and reduction of the risk of pesticide usage.
It should be noted that the National Food Agency implements anti-locust measures in Eastern Georgia every year within the framework of the state program. Locusts pose a serious threat to agricultural crops and green cover not only in Georgia, but also in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
At present, 100 thousand ha area has been treated against locusts in Eastern Georgia.
