During a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili expressed strong support for recent diplomatic progress between Azerbaijan and Armenia, calling their steps toward peace a welcome development that contributes to regional stability.
“We welcome the steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia toward establishing lasting peace, which should contribute to the region’s movement toward peace and stability,” Kavelashvili stated.
He reiterated Georgia’s commitment to peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus, affirming the country's ongoing readiness to support and promote peace and constructive regional cooperation.
Highlighting the importance of multilateral collaboration, President Kavelashvili emphasized the strategic role of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye trilateral format.
“Given existing geopolitical realities, regional cooperation has gained even greater importance,” he said. “The trilateral format stands as a successful example of how countries that respect sovereignty and territorial integrity can implement major regional projects together.”
Turning to broader security concerns, Kavelashvili confirmed that he and President Erdoğan discussed Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and Black Sea security dynamics.
“We addressed the full-scale aggression conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and underlined the strategic importance of Black Sea security,” he noted, also commending Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts, particularly Erdoğan’s, in pursuing dialogue amid the conflict.
The leaders also touched on developments in the Middle East. Kavelashvili stressed that “Georgia supports the necessity of establishing peace in the Middle East,” further reinforcing Georgia’s foreign policy focus on peace and stability across regions.
