In connection with the 29th anniversary of the fall of Sukhumi and in honor of the memory of those who died in the war in Abkhazia, the state flag was lowered over the building of the Parliament of Georgia.
In 1992-1993, as a result of the war, more than 3 thousand soldiers and more than 10 thousand civilians died, while over 300 thousand became displaced.
The military activities lasted for 13 months and 13 days and ended with the fall of Sokhumi on September 27, 1993.
September 27 is associated in Georgia with the loss of control over Abkhazia and the ethnic cleansing of Georgians that occurred in that region. Reportedly, more than 12,000 people died during the armed conflict. Around 300,000 remain displaced.
