The exhibition presents 80 works of Irakli Parjiani preserved in the funds and private collections of the National Gallery: painting, graphics, illustration. Some of them (30 works) are exhibited for the first time. The catalog accompanying the exhibition will also be published.
Irakli Parjiani is one of the largest figures of Georgian art of the 20th century, the leader of post-Soviet Georgian painting since the 1980s, who defined the position, style and direction of the generation. Irakli Parjiani's work spans 17 years. He died at the age of 41. Irakli Parjiani is associated with the rehabilitation of the broken tradition of religious painting in Georgian art. He introduced his own scheme of contemporary art flow, abstraction and form modification to the Georgian painting of the 80's. Irakli Parjiani was a unique artist to able to combine traditional and modern cultural systems in the Georgian art.
Irakli Parjiani is a laureate of Niko Pirosmani Award.
