A series of the postcards Old Tiflis by the Georgian painter and graphic artist Oskar Schmerling of German origin was published on the website of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
The postcards printed in 1928 in travesty and caricature genre convey individual episodes of Tbilisi's social life at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. Schmerling's humorous creations reflected the types of Tbilisi residents, their activities, entertainment, leisure and trade.
Oskar Schmerling painted landscapes, battle and genre pictures. His contribution to the development of the Georgian travesty and caricature, as well as illustration, is outstanding.
