In the II quarter of 2024, 3.6 mln. tons of cargo were transported, which is 2.3 percent more than the corresponding period last year. 11.1 percent of the said volume account for the domestic shipping, 27.7 percent - international shipping (not including transit), and 61.2 percent - transit.
28.9 percent of the total volume of cargo carried by railway included coal and lignite, the commodity group of crude oil and natural gas, 26.4 percent - metal ore and other raw materials of the mining industry, and 13.2 percent - food products, beverages and tobacco products.
In the Q2 2024, the distribution by commodity group was different for local shipments, with 55.0 percent accounting for metal ore and other mining raw materials, 15.8 percent - other non-metallic mineral products, and 14.3 percent - coal, crude oil, and natural gas commodity group.
As for international shipments, coal and lignite were mainly imported by railway during the reporting period; crude oil and natural gas (46.7 percent), other non-metallic mineral products (22.7 percent), metal ore and other quarry products (8.2 percent), base metals (5.8 percent), and coke and refined petroleum products (4.8 percent); metal ore and other quarry products (41.8 percent), food products, beverages and tobacco (30.8 percent), base metals (9.5 percent) and other non-metallic mineral products (8.4 percent) were exported.
In the II quarter of 2024, 71.0 percent of the total volume of transit cargo accounted for three commodity groups, namely: coal and lignite; crude oil and natural gas (29.0 percent), metal ore and other quarry products (25.2 percent), and coke and refined petroleum products (16.8 percent).
