In October, Georgia imported 175 million kWh of electricity from Russia, with additional, though minimal, supplies coming from Azerbaijan and Armenia. Overall, electricity imports for the year reached 700 million kWh, a figure expected to rise further in December and January, as Georgia's domestic power generation capacity is nearly halted in winter, leading to reliance on imported electricity or power generated by thermal plants.
In recent years, Russia has been the primary electricity supplier to Georgia. The electricity purchased from Russia is also distributed to the occupied region of Abkhazia. In 2023, Georgia imported a total of 786.5 million kWh from Russia, nearly all of which was consumed by Abkhazia.
Regarding national consumption, data for the first ten months of the year indicate that total electricity consumption in Georgia amounted to nearly 12 billion kWh.
