
Under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, a meeting of the Economic Council was held in the government administration.
Current economic projects and future plans were discussed at the meeting. The conversation touched on the issue of wheat import. It was noted that as a result of heavy rainfall, a significant part of the wheat crop in Kakheti region cannot meet the requirements of food wheat, as a result of which farmers have to sell wheat for fodder purposes. In order to facilitate and smoothly implement the above-mentioned process, a decision was made regarding the restriction of wheat import until November 1, 2023.
The growing economic indicators in the country were emphasized at the meeting. It was noted that the government took effective steps at the beginning of this year and as a result the country has seen 0.6%-inflation and there is an expectation that this year inflation rate will be lower than planned.
The conversation touched on the development of the digital economy in Georgia. It was noted that Georgia strives to establish the position of a digital hub in the region, and the government's goal is to make the most of the potential that the country has in the direction of the digital transit corridor (hub) connecting Asian and European countries.
At the session of the Economic Council, they also talked about infrastructural projects in the regions.
They also talked about preparations for Harvest 2023 and the issues of smooth accommodation of the harvest.
