The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia condemns the second round of the so-called presidential elections conducted by Russia in the occupied Tskhinvali region on May 8.
As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported, such illegal actions violate the fundamental principles and norms of international law and grossly violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the Russian Federation to respect Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to fulfill its international obligations, including the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to properly assess and effectively respond to another further illegal action against Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
To be reminded, the second round of the so-called "presidential elections" was held in occupied Tskhinvali yesterday. According to the latest data of the so-called central election commission, more than 85% of votes have been counted and Alan Gagloev leads with 53.67% of the votes in the so-called "presidential elections". The "incumbent president" Anatoly Bibilov, was supported by 41.3% of "voters".
