The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has expressed deep concern over recent developments in Georgia, including the arrest of peaceful protesters and opposition leaders, and new laws restricting civil society.
ODIHR Director Maria Telalian urged Georgian authorities to withdraw restrictive legislation and respect civil and political rights, calling them essential to democracy and the rule of law.
The Office also criticized the revival of the "foreign agents" law, recent restrictions on public protests, and unfair trials of detained activists.
ODIHR further regretted Georgia’s decision not to invite its observers for upcoming local elections—breaking a two-decade practice. Still, the organization said it remains ready to assist and observe if invited.
“We remain committed to supporting Georgia’s democratic institutions and human rights,” said Telalian.
