"From April 12 to April 14, 2024, the Writer's House of Georgia, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, participated for the first time in the Paris Book Festival with a national stand," - the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia reports.
The writer and film director Temur Babluani, together with the representative of the National Film Center in Europe, Sofia Babluani, presented the French translation of his book - The Sun The Moon and The Wheat Field - at the closing event of the festival. The book attracted great approval and interest of those present at the event. With this event, the the Writer's House of Georgia successfully completed its participation in the Paris Book Festival.
The events of the last festival day were attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani, Director of the Writer's House of Georgia Ketevan Dumbadze, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of France Gocha Javakhishvili and representatives of the literary field.
It is important that a PUBLISHERS MATCHMAKING business meeting was successfully held at the Georgian stand during the days of the festival with the participation of the Writer's House of Georgia and Georgian publishers and the catalog of the Georgian literature was discussed.
A booklet with a synopsis of about 50 works of the Georgian authors and fragments of ancient Georgian writing samples was presented at the national stand of Georgia. It should be noted that along with the Georgian publishers at the Georgian stand there were representatives of French publishing houses: LE CHERCHE MIDI, GINGKO, EDITIONS DES CARNETS DU DESSERT DE LUNE, MEDUZA and Italian publishing house MODERN TIMES. They presented classical and modern Georgian prose and poetic works translated into French.
The visitors of the Georgian stand got to know the samples of the Georgian writing and participated in an interesting calligraphy activity for two days. Calligrapher Giorgi Sisauri wrote the desired words, sayings and phrases in the Georgian alphabet.
It should be noted that the Paris Book Festival is one of the most important cultural events in Europe, which is held every year in the spring. 1,200 publishers and 2,000 authors participate in it. This year, for the first time, Georgia had the opportunity to join the festival activities with a national stand.
Participation in the festival is very important for Georgia. This will help the Writer's House of Georgia, the Georgian writers and publishers in conducting literary relations, popularizing the Georgian writing, finding new contacts and promoting translation activities.
