Lana Ghoghoberidze's latest work, the documentary film Mother and Daughter Or The Night Is Never Complete was selected for the Berlinale Forum section.
The festival program is not fully known yet.
"Greatness paired with modesty: 93 years old and a daughter, world-famous director Lana remembers her mother Nutsa, Georgia’s first female filmmaker. A cinema legacy that revolves around being human in dark times: feminist, loving, critical of violence," - Berlinale's official website says.
At the age of 25, Nutsa Ghoghoberidze became the first female director in Georgia and the first female director of feature films in the Soviet Union. However, she managed to shoot a total of three films. After the shooting of her husband in 1937, she lost all opportunities to work in the cinema. In late 1937, Nutsa Ghoghoberidze was also arrested and exiled for 10 years. First in the Potma concentration camp, then in the women's concentration camp Vorkuta, where thousands of women called ChSIR (член цемьиизменника родины) were gathered. This is how the wives of "enemies of the people" were referred to, who were arrested without a court verdict. Returning to Georgia after 10 years, Nutsa did not try to continue working in cinema.
Nutsa Ghoghoberidze is the stage director and screenwriter of the films "Ujmuri" [Grumpy] (1934), "Buba" (1930).
Lana Ghoghoberidze's films have been included in the international festivals, including Cannes, Venice, Tokyo festivals, many times, among them. In 1984, Lana Ghoghoberidze was also a member of the jury of the Berlinale festival.
