The Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili is paying an official visit to the United States.
According to the official Facebook page of the Ambassador of Georgia to the United States, David Zalkaliani, important high-level meetings will be held during the visit to enhance the Georgia-US economic cooperation.
"The meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister with the US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai is noteworthy. Such a high-level positive meeting, which we have been working on for years, underscores the importance of the Georgia-US economic cooperation and the need to improve the bilateral trade regime. The free trade agreement between Georgia and the United States will be a mix of political and economic interests and a clear message of increasing the US economic interests, which will contribute to Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations and economic development, including the need for trade diversification. The Deputy Prime Minister had a broad and comprehensive conversation with the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation Scott Nathan. It was noted at the meeting that the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) will continue to support such sectors as the financial sector, tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, renewable energy development and more in Georgia. Currently, the organization implements 12 existing projects in Georgia, the total cost of which is $ 188 million. In total, the agency has invested more than $ 750 million in Georgia. The DFC plays an extremely important role in Georgia's economic development. In this context, the opening of a regional office by the DFC in our capital will send a clear message of increasing the US economic interests in our country and the region."
According to the same information, at the end of the day, the Deputy Prime Minister met with the Vice President of the US Export and Import Bank (EXIM Bank) Judith Pryor. At the meeting, the Georgian side expressed a clear desire to have as many American companies as possible in Georgia. The issues related to a number of sectors were also discussed at the meeting, the development of which will contribute to the deepening of bilateral business ties. During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold meetings in Congress and participate in a discussion organized by the American-Georgia Business Council on the development of commercial and trade cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
