The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Genadi Arveladze made a report on the 6-month results of the National Action Plan for the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union at the meeting of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament.
“The legislation of Georgia is already more than 60 percent closer to the normative acts of the European Union, which are provided by the DCFTA. According to Genadi Arveladze, this is an important progress and means the high pace of integration of Georgia in the EU single market,” - Genadi Arveladze stated.
Commenting on the bilateral trade, the Deputy Minister noted that the trade turnover increased by 21 percent in the 6 months of 2023. He particularly focused on the growth of exports in such important commodity positions as mineral water (43 percent), fruit and vegetable preserves (52 percent), natural juices (93 percent), non-alcoholic beverages (36 percent), nitrogen fertilizers (84 percent). According to him, the export of agricultural products from Georgia to the European Union increased by 5 percent.
According to Genadi Arveladze, the government is actively implementing various tools to increase the competitiveness of the private sector, including small and medium-sized businesses, and promote adaptation to new requirements.
“For this purpose, the Enterprise Georgia Agency was created under the umbrella of the Ministry, which promotes the development of small and medium-sized businesses using such programs as increasing access to finance, developing business skills, promoting exports and investments, etc.
The Deputy Minister also focused on the decisions made in the market supervision, accreditation, quality infrastructure, state procurement and other priority directions.
