A Georgian poet, art critic, and artist Karlo Katcharava's exhibition Sentimental Traveller was opened in the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Magda Guruli, the exhibition is part of the great cultural and artistic program presented at Europalia Georgia.
"The festival opened on October 5 and will last until February. This project is supported by the Georgian government and is very important, because the European audience will get to know outstanding examples of the Georgian culture and art. Karlo Katcharava is an important figure in the history of Georgian modern art. He died at the age of 30 and left behind significant works, analytical and theoretical texts that are still relevant today.
Karlo Katcharava is very closely related to the European art movement known as German Expressionism, but Karlo has his own characteristics. These are, for example, texts that are very rarely found in German expressionism. Karlo Kacharava symbolically returned to his European roots. This exhibition is a part of Europalia Georgia, which in itself is an important event in the period when we are waiting for a political decision on the candidate status", said Magda Guruli.
As Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, the Head of the Representation of Georgia to the European Union, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Karlo Katcharava is one of the outstanding artists of modern Georgian art.
Regarding the exhibition, the director of the Ghent Museum of Contemporary Art, Philippe Van Cauteren, also expressed his opinion. He said the main task of the Museum of Modern Art was to discover new artists.
