14-kilometer-long two-way Batumi bypass highway, which comprises 20 bridges and 5 tunnels, has been opened.
The highway was constructed in full compliance with international safety standards with modern lighting systems installed. The highway links with adjacent villages.
The highway aims to lessen the city’s transit movement and improve Batumi’s living and recreational conditions.
The Batumi by-pass highway is a part of the West-East European route (E70) which starts in Spain, passes 8 countries and ends in Poti. The international corridor is significant for trade relations, tourism and cultural ties.
The Batumi bypass highway construction project was implemented within the framework of loans received from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and co-financed by the state budget. The cost of the project was 330 million GEL.
