“The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia familiarized himself with the issues of the 2022 harvest at the vintage coordination headquarters in Telavi,” - the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia reported.
"A significant part of the harvest - more than 120 thousand tons of grapes (more than 65,000 tons of Rkatsiteli, up to 50,000 tons of Saperavi and the rest of other varieties of grapes) have been processed. We think that approximately 25,000 families in Kakheti will receive an income of up to GEL 300 million, which is very important. The harvesting process is organized and is ongoing without interruptions. The coordination headquarters operates 24 hours a day and, with the support of the local municipality and other relevant services, handles the process well. The winegrowers transfer the grapes smoothly", - said Otar Shamugia.
According to the Minister, improving the quality of Georgian grapes is important, which determines its international reputation and price.
As in previous years, this year the harvest headquarters is coordinating the organization of the harvest, accounting and traceability of the grapes to be handed over. Registration of grape producers is carried out in a unified electronic system, which was introduced by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia in 2013 and has been functioning effectively since then.
The harvest is in an active phase in most regions of Kakheti, except Sagarejo Municipality, which traditionally gets involved in the harvest process later.
