The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze asserts that Georgia’s EU membership by 2030 is achievable, emphasizing the need for greater flexibility from Brussels in the negotiation process. In an exclusive interview with Euronews, he states, “The ball is now in Brussels’ court,” highlighting that the European Union must adopt a more adaptable approach to new member states. While acknowledging the significant challenges posed by European bureaucracy, Kobakhidze remains optimistic about Georgia’s prospects for EU membership by 2030.
He further expresses dissatisfaction with the current state of relations between Georgia and the EU, describing them as “unacceptable.” Kobakhidze insists that this strain is not due to Georgia’s policies, but rather the European bureaucratic approach towards Georgia. He believes that if this approach changes, it would lead to a significant improvement in relations. Despite the current challenges, the Prime Minister is determined to continue pushing for EU integration, hoping for a more fair and constructive approach from Brussels in the coming years.
