Stabilization of prices, a massive harvest of wheat in Russia and lowering of customs charges created an opportunity to operate mills in Georgia.
The Executive Director of the Georgian Flour Producers Association, Levan Silagava, says that today almost all large mills are working with different capacities.
"The situation is relatively better for us today due to the downward trend of grain prices in the world markets and the good harvest in Russia. Also, the floating customs charges have been lowered quite a bit, this has led to a decrease in the price of both flour and wheat. As a result, mills in Georgia have been allowed to operate. In August, 30,000 tons, and in September, according to my information, 60,000 tons of wheat were imported into Georgia, which is the figure when we imported in case of a stable state. Now, almost all [10] large mills in Georgia are in operation. Flour became cheaper. The bakers also say that they also made bread cheaper", - Silagava said.
It should be noted that in the background of the attack on Kiev by the Russian military forces and the escalation of the war, the global price on wheat immediately increased. Wheat prices rose nearly 4.5% to $9,920 per bushel a few hours after the opening of the exchange market, which has been the highest mark recorded since June. Now the market prices continue to decrease and today one bushel costs 8,930 US dollars.
