Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, posted on social media stating that USAID must clarify how tens of millions of dollars are being spent on organizations that attempt to undermine elections.
He criticized USAID for allocating $41.7 million to Georgia’s elections through political NGOs, noting that this amount would be equivalent to injecting $3.78 billion into U.S. elections, considering the population ratio and GDPs of both countries. He argued that it is unacceptable to spend such a significant amount on another country’s elections without accountability to its citizens.
Papuashvili also pointed out that USAID, which was involved in spreading false parallel vote counts and attempting to overturn elections in 2020, has continued similar actions in 2024. He called for an explanation of how USAID’s funding is being used to support organizations that repeatedly try to undermine elections.
