Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the continuation of a medication program for socially vulnerable pensioners in the capital, with a ₾10 million ($3.5 million) allocation for this year. Kaladze emphasized the government's commitment to social and healthcare programs, underscoring the importance of reducing poverty and promoting economic development to ensure citizens' prosperity.
The program, which began in 2022, fulfills a key election pledge of the ruling party. Pensioners can receive a ₾500 ($174.84) annual voucher for medications, accessible with a prescription from a family doctor at any pharmacy. Over the past three years, around 25,000 pensioners have benefited from the initiative.
