Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Vice Prime Minister, highlighted the importance of Kazakhstan as a key trade and economic partner for Georgia in light of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's visit to Kazakhstan. Davitashvili expressed expectations for further strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
In 2024, trade turnover between Georgia and Kazakhstan reached $922 million, with increasing exports and re-exports from Georgia. He also mentioned the upcoming signing of an intellectual property protection agreement, which has not been updated since 1997, underscoring its importance in the modern, dynamic global landscape.
Davitashvili noted Kazakhstan's growing role as a source of foreign direct investment, particularly in the energy sector, with expectations for continued investment growth, especially post-2026. Additionally, cooperation in transportation, particularly in railway links, was discussed, with the launch of multimodal trains from China to Georgia through Kazakhstan and the increased role of the Middle Corridor. A joint venture between the railways of Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan has been established to streamline cargo transportation.
Tourism was also a key point, with Kazakhstan ranking sixth among Georgia’s tourist partners. Nearly 200,000 Kazakhstani tourists visited Georgia, a trend Davitashvili hopes will continue.
