Prosecutor files a motion ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili to be involved in trials from a penitentiary institution or remotely

During the trial in the Tbilisi City Court, the prosecutor of the case, Jarji Tsiklauri, filed a motion to involve the convicted Mikheil Saakashvili in the trials from the penitentiary institution or remotely.

The prosecutor explained that if for any reason the prisoner could not be transported, it was possible that the trial would be held at the place of detention with the direct participation of the accused.

Beka Basilaia, Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer, said at the trial that the prosecution's motion was inadmissible. According to him, Saakashvili's lawyers demand the immediate presence of the accused at the trial.

To be reminded, the ex-president of Georgia has been charged under the third part of Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulates abuse of official authority, which has led to a substantial violation of the rights of a natural or legal person, society, or state. The mentioned sentence envisages imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
