
In the first quarter of 2023, 298 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation entered Georgia, which is 3 times more than the number recorded in the same period of the previous year.
Moreover, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, this flow of Russian citizens exceeds the pre-pandemic, i.e. 2019 figures, when 283,000 Russian citizens crossed the Georgian border in the first quarter. Accordingly, compared to 2019, the number of Russian citizens entering Georgia has increased by 5%.
As a whole, 1,149,895 foreign citizens entered Georgia in the first quarter, which is twice as much as compared to the previous year.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Russia is followed by Turkey, from where 237 thousand people entered Georgia in the first quarter, and Armenia ranks 3rd with 224 thousand arrivals.
The top ten border crossings are distributed as follows:
1) Russia - 298,285 arrivals;
2) Turkey - 236,843 arrivals;
3) Armenia - 224,342 arrivals;
4) The EU - 56,461 arrivals;
5) Israel - 50,226 arrivals;
6) Azerbaijan - 48,231 arrivals;
7) Ukraine - 42,340 arrivals;
8) Belarus - 26,801 arrivals;
9) Iran - 24,937 arrivals;
10) India - 24,296 arrivals.
