Cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung) begins. The relevant memorandum was signed by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, and the scientific director of the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, Paolo Giubellino, in Frankfurt.
The memorandum envisages partnership between the parties through the implementation of joint educational and scientific and research projects. Proton therapy, clean energy, circular economy, hydrodynamics, air pollution, radiation physics, radio-oncology and radionuclide production are identified as possible areas of common research.
In addition, as part of the cooperation memorandum, student exchange and internship programs, thematic seminars and summer schools will be implemented both in Georgia and at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. The German side will share its experience with Georgian colleagues in the field of proton cyclotron operation for radiation therapy and will provide scientific and technological consultation to the Kutaisi International University for the Hadron Therapy Center. The parties will also jointly work on the development and strengthening of the existing SMART laboratories.
It should be noted that the partnership started between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research will be further deepened and expanded within the framework of the Georgian-German Science Bridge (GGSB).
