
Georgian civil agencies registered 26,048 marriages across the country in 2022, with the figure marking a 12.5 percent increase year-on-year, while the number of divorces equaled 14,098 and a 32.3 percent increase, the National Statistics Office of Georgia said.
The release of statistics showed the average age of marriage at 29.4 for women and 31.9 for men.
The highest number of marriages was registered in capital Tbilisi with 7,916 acts, the western region of Imereti with 4,154 and the Black Sea coastline region of Adjara with 2,458.
Across the country, 42,319 children were born throughout the past year, with 21,897 boys and 20,422 girls. The number of births decreased 7.9 percent year-on-year.
The share of births for women aged below 25 declined from 27.2 percent to 26.5 percent and increased for women aged 40 and older - from 3.6 percent to 4 percent - and those aged between 25-39 - from 69.2 percent to 69.6 percent.
Infant mortality rate per 1,000 births equaled 7.6 percent, while the mortality rate for children under five totaled 9.2 percent.
