"Members of the Green Climate Fund delegation, the largest fund assisting developing countries to meet their climate change goals, visited Georgia to review the protection of forests in the country, as part of the ECO.Georgia project," - the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia said.
The GCF delegation visited the eastern Kakheti and its northeastern Kvareli regions with Deputy Environment Minister Kakha Kakabadze and the representatives of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, German Embassy and German Society for International Cooperation, and got acquainted with the activities carried out within the project and the ongoing forest inventory and forest restoration works.
As part of ECO.Georgia project, the National Forestry Agency of Georgia and GIZ signed a grant agreement for the forest inventory operations on a total of 98,000 hectares, as a result of which ten-year forest management plans will be prepared. Employee training, forest maintenance and restoration are also underway as part of the agreement.
