According to the official statement of the military hospital, the cameras were installed only during Mikheil Saakashvili's stay in the Gori military hospital due to the high public interest in his safety and health, but after his transfer to the Rustavi penitentiary, there was no obligation to keep the footage.
However, according to the military hospital, a letter from the State Inspector's Service requesting the archiving of footage from December 27 to December 28 was received in the military hospital on December 31, at which time the video footage had already been deleted.
"False information has been spread in various media outlets in recent days, as if Giorgi Abramishvili Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defense deliberately destroyed footage related to Mikheil Saakashvili.
We explain to the public that cameras were installed during the transfer of Mikheil Saakashvili to the Gori Military Hospital due to the high public interest in his safety and health. As you know, Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from Gori Military Hospital to the Penitentiary Establishment on December 30, at 00:15. As these cameras were used solely for the security purposes of Mikheil Saakashvili, there was no longer any obligation to keep this footage at the Gori Military Hospital.
Almost two days later Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from the Gori Military Hospital, on December 31, at 18:25, a letter arrived from the State Inspector's Service requesting that the video material be archived from December 27 to December 28. As we have already explained, the mentioned video material had already been deleted, because there was neither an obligation nor an expediency to keep it.
The cameras installed in the Gori Military Hospital had a 72-hour working mode, therefore the recordings of December 27-28 would be overwritten automatically. The ongoing campaign against them is only a part of political speculation and has nothing to do with reality.
Moreover, the request of the State Inspector could not be fully met in any case, even if the cameras had been still in working condition, because these cameras have a 72-hour operation mode, after which the material is automatically overwritten. The letter of the State Inspector, as it was mentioned, came in after a long period, after Mikheil Saakashvili was discharged from the hospital.
Additionally, in connection with the mentioned issues, Davit Ghoniashvili, advisor to the Director of the Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defense, has given a detailed testimony to the State Inspector's Service and they have not observed any violation of the law in this regard.
Therefore, we think it will be clear to the public that the current campaign is only part of political speculation and has nothing to do with reality," - the official statement reads.
