The governments of Georgia and Germany have agreed to expand cooperation in the energy sector within the framework of government negotiations concluded today in the field of development policy. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany will allocate 23 million euros to Georgia for the purpose of developing green hydrogen into the market.
Reportedly, this cooperation is the first investment project in terms of green hydrogen technology in the Caucasus region. Due to many hydroelectric plants, high solar radiation and very good wind conditions, the region has the potential for renewable energies and thus green hydrogen.
The funds allocated should be used for the construction of an electrolysis plant, a hydrogen reservoir and the necessary wind power plant in the following years.
In addition to the energy sector, the parties also agreed to continue cooperation in other areas. The package of measures includes up to 68 million euros in total for the next two years.
The water supply and drainage systems in Batumi and Adjara as a whole, also the public transport in Tbilisi and Batumi should be improved in order to make the cities more sustainable and adaptable to the future. It is also planned to train specialists for Georgian companies.
