The Agency makes explanations about the closure of the territory, but does not specify the period during which one of the active tourist places in Georgia is expected to remain closed:
"As you know, Okatse waterfall is located in the Georgian village of Kinchkha, on a rocky area. The area needs constant monitoring to ensure the safe movement of visitors. At this stage, planned monitoring is being carried out to study geological processes, including rockfall, due to which the area has been closed for some time. We will provide additional information to the public through the official website of the Agency of Protected Areas and Facebook pages,” - the Agency explains.
Reportedly, the unique nature of Okatse Waterfall and ecotourism services are of great interest to both Georgian citizens and foreign visitors. In 2021, against the backdrop of the pandemic, there were 17,247 visitors to Okatse Falls.
To be informed, in 2021, the Agency of Protected Areas resumed visitor reception on May 26 and hosted up to 600,000 visitors within 6 months (1,200,000 tourists visited the protected areas in the tourist-record 2019).
The Protected Areas of Georgia continues to receive visitors in compliance with all relevant recommendations developed by the Government of Georgia and the World Health Organization.
