As a result of the competition announced by the Georgian National Film Center - promoting the screening of the film at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival for full-length feature films - the National Film Center will finance the screening of film director Tinatin Kajrishvili and producer Lasha Khalvashi's film Citizen Saint at the Cannes Film Festival.
Citizen Saint was filmed with the support of the Georgian National Film Center, according to the script of Tinatin Kajrishvili and Basa Janikashvili. The action of the film takes place in the town of miners, the inhabitants of which have erected a statue of the saint in the main square of the town. One day the saint comes back to life and begins to live with people, but this unusual event worries the city and no one knows what to do. The film is starred by Levan Berikashvili, Giorgi Babluani, Mari Kitia and Gia Burjanadze.
The film is the winner of many international awards. Citizen Saint is a film submitted on behalf of Georgia in the nomination of the foreign language film at the 2024 American Film Academy Awards. In 2023, the film participated in the main competition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, one of the oldest in the world, and was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Prize. The world premiere of the film was held at the same festival. In the same year, the film was nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Many international platforms express their interest towards the film.
It was with Citizen Saint that closed the retrospective Modern Georgian Cinema in December 2023, which was hosted by the Blue Cinema Hall of the Cinema Academy with the support of the National Film Center.
This time the film will be screened at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival.
