Nino Tandilashvili, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, has been elected as a member of the Governing Board of the United Nations-initiated Green Climate Fund
Nino Tandilashvili was elected to the Board of the body - established in 2014 as part of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - on the nomination of countries of the Eastern European region.
"The election of Nino Tandilashvili to the foundation's management Board will allow countries of the Eastern European region, including Georgia, to further deepen their relationship with the organization, make available climate-smart technologies and increase green financing", - the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said.
The Green Climate Fund was established as an operating entity designed to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change.
The Ministry said Georgia cooperated "closely and fruitfully" with the GCF, with "several large projects" underway in the country with the support of the organization.
