“The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Solomon Pavliashvili participated in the 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. As part of the conference, Solomon Pavliashvili met with the Secretary General of the Federal Ministry of Climate, Environmental Protection, Energy, Transport, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Austria Herbert Kaser,” - the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia reported.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the long-term close cooperation between Georgia and Austria in the field of environmental protection and agriculture.
Solomon Pavliashvili drew attention to the importance of ongoing projects supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) in the fields of sustainable forest management, protected areas, waste management and climate change. The Deputy Minister noted that Georgia had taken appropriate steps to fulfill the points that are important for obtaining the EU candidate status and expressed hope that this progress would be properly evaluated.
General Secretary Herbert Kaser positively evaluated the partnership between Austria and Georgia and the results achieved and expressed readiness for future cooperation in the field of hazardous waste management, as well as sharing experience in the fields of nuclear and radiation safety. The parties also discussed the issues of deepening cooperation in the direction of the extended commitment of the producer and the introduction of circular economy principles.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Austria, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, members of the Georgian delegation and the General Director of the Environment and Circular Economy Section for the Ministry of the Environment in Austria, Christian Holzer.
