The respective information is disseminated by the LEPL Agricultural Research Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
“The project identified key characteristics to select promising forms of poplars, record dendrometric and morphometric indicators of growth and development during the vegetation period, determine the percentage of plantation, analyze the field materials, identify the prospective forms and determine biomass, energy and carbon potential of the prospective clones selected.
The studies were being carried out on the trial areas in the municipalities of Georgia - Mtskheta, Gori and Khashuri - on 21 fast-growing clones of introduced new hybrid poplars.
As part of the project, specialists visited Biopoplar - the private research company for fast-growing trees in Italy, where they learned about biomass productivity methods and, with the help of a local consultant, developed an experimental plantation scheme.
