The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia said authorities were working to prepare a national guide for transition to the circular economy - a model of production and consumption which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Solomon Pavliashvili, who attended the first plenary session held for the purpose of developing the national guide, said the Government had been taking “important” steps for the development of the circular economy “over the recent years”.
Solomon Pavliashvili said the Assessment of the Circularity Level of the Georgian Economy had been developed with the support of the Swedish Government, outlining the target indicators recommended for the national policy for the circular economy and goals of circularity, sectoral opportunities, sectoral policy options and recommendations.
The guide for the transition will be developed by an expert team of the Union of Nature Researchers of Georgia, in coordination with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Inter-agency Coordination Council.
