
The Ministers of Environment Protection and high-ranking officials from different countries of the world attended the meeting held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, within the framework of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) at the invitation of Japan's Minister of Environment Protection Ito Shintaro," - the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia informs.
The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, gave a speech to the mentioned high-level meeting.
"Otar Shamugia positively assessed the cooperation between the governments of Japan and Georgia within the framework of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
"In 2022, the governments of Georgia and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation against the climate change and create a joint crediting mechanism. It is planned to create a joint committee consisting of representatives of both governments. The committee will have the mandate to implement the joint crediting mechanism. Also, we are planning a meeting of the joint committee to formalize the project cycle procedures, which will allow us to implement the first emission reduction projects as part of the JCM scheme in Georgia", said Otar Shamugia.
The United Nations Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP28) is a multilateral decision-making platform on the climate change issues. More than 100,000 delegates participated in the ongoing conference in Dubai. As part of the conference, various events, including the leaders' summit, ministerial meetings, bilateral meetings and negotiations, were held. The First Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili attended the Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP28) together with the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
