“Georgia is not an island. It is the portal between Europe and Eurasia,” said Ben Hodges, a retired United States Army officer who served as commanding general, United States Army Europe.

“I agree with Rep. JoeWilson. But it needs to be part of a strategy for the greater Black Sea region. Georgia is not an island. It is the portal between Europe and Eurasia. We need a strategy that achieves our aims for the region, that includes Ukraine, Türkiye, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria,” he wrote on the X Platform.

Ben Hodges remarked on the statement of Rep. Joe Wilson, who chairs the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission.

Joe Wilson stated: “Corrupt Bdzina Ivanishvili, a lover of China and Iran and hater of America, is trying to transform Georgia from a democracy into a dictatorship. We must put America First and cut all finances to Georgia if that happens.”
