Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has called on the EU Embassy to urgently clarify how European taxpayer money is being used to support NGOs in Georgia allegedly involved in organizing rallies with anti-government rhetoric.
Papuashvili claimed that NGOs funded by the EU—specifically Transparency International and Sapari—organized a recent rally where participants made statements calling for the government's overthrow and punishment of officials. He emphasized that Baia Pataraia, head of Sapari, who he said is paid by the EU, controlled the event and approved speakers’ messages.
“When such statements are made from a stage funded by the EU, it’s a serious concern,” he stated. “This is no longer a political allegation but a fact.”
He reiterated that the EU Embassy must immediately clarify whether it supports such messages, as they may contradict Georgia’s Constitution and international law.
