The Georgian National Tourism Administration is exploring a new strategic direction by promoting wedding tourism, with a focus on attracting high-spending Indian visitors. As part of this initiative, the Administration’s Convention and Exhibition Bureau recently hosted representatives from 15 major Indian event companies interested in organizing destination weddings in Georgia.
During their visit, Indian planners toured key locations such as Tbilisi, Mukhran, and the Kakheti region, exploring venues and infrastructure suitable for large-scale wedding events. They also held meetings with Georgian tourism industry representatives to discuss potential partnerships.
According to Maia Omiadze, Head of the National Tourism Administration, wedding tourism is a promising new niche.
“This is a proven tourism product in Europe. Georgia has strong potential to become a sought-after wedding destination, and our hospitality sector is ready to support it,” she said.
Indian event organizer Isha praised Georgia’s cultural and culinary similarities to India, its friendly locals, affordable pricing, and the benefit of direct flights from Indian cities, all of which make the country an attractive option for Indian weddings and events.
India: A Growing Market for Georgian Tourism
India is already emerging as a key tourism market for Georgia. Between January and June 2025, the country welcomed 75,893 Indian visitors, marking a 31.4% increase year-over-year. India now ranks 6th among Georgia’s top source markets, with total spending reaching 110.5 million GEL in the first half of 2025.
A study by Galt & Taggart highlights the importance of targeting higher-spending Indian tourists and developing new tourism products like weddings, conferences, and forums to capitalize on this growth.
The National Tourism Administration plans to continue fostering partnerships and developing Georgia as a premier destination for Indian weddings, which bring large groups and substantial economic impact over short timeframes.
