Shalva Kereselidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, expressed that they have yet to hear any substantive arguments from the government regarding the effectiveness of the education reform.
According to Kereselidze, the proposed merger of Ivane Javakhishvili State University and the Georgian Technical University must be thoroughly justified.
“Have we heard any coherent arguments from the government about the efficacy of the education reform? Of course not. There have been no convincing reasons. If your sole argument is that Ivane Javakhishvili State University and the Technical University should merge, then that is not an argument at all. The government must first present clear reasoning and convince the public that its decisions are justified. They must explain thoroughly and provide evidence as to why the universities are being merged.
Was this reform presented to those employed in the education sector, discussed openly, and properly introduced? Of course not. One or two individuals merely drafted a document and proclaimed that the reform is ‘ideal’. That is what happens when no one truly agrees with the changes,” Kereselidze noted.
