In accordance with the Maritime Trade Agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Cyprus, the parties agreed to establish a Joint Maritime Committee to discuss issues of common interest to both countries.
During the visit, the head of the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency also met with members of the Cyprus Chamber of Navigation and one of the largest employers of Georgian sailors, the owner of the ship - "Columbia Shipmanagement".
The meetings focused on the successful experience of managing the crisis caused by the pandemic in the maritime field and noted the positive results achieved by Georgia in the direction of rotation and vaccination of Georgian sailors.
The Georgian side is interested in sharing the experience of Cyprus in establishing a maritime cluster and is about to consider deepening relations in the field of maritime education, research and innovation.
The parties highlighted the successful systemic reforms implemented by Georgia in the last decade, particularly, in the field of maritime education and certification, as well as the naval ensign and ports, which, in a short period of time, ensured the strengthening of the country's maritime reputation in the international arena.
The meetings were organized by the Embassy of Georgia within the framework of the first state visit of the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, to the Republic of Cyprus.
