The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, emphasized the nation’s commitment to European Union accession during his address at the closing event of the Ambassadors’ Conference 2024.
As outlined in his speech, the Prime Minister identified EU membership as one of the core priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy. Despite challenges, including speculation by certain international entities and artificially created obstacles, Georgia remains steadfast in its progress toward European integration.
“This determination was exemplified by Georgia’s attainment of EU candidate status in December last year,” noted Kobakhidze. “The contributions of our diplomats to this achievement have been exceptional. We remain committed to fulfilling all obligations associated with our European integration process. Currently, we are actively implementing the commitments outlined in the Association Agenda, with the goal of completing over 90% of these obligations by 2028. Regarding the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), we aim to meet more than 90% of its requirements within four years, a critical step toward advancing our European aspirations.”
The Prime Minister highlighted Georgia’s leadership in the wider region in terms of democratic and economic reforms, noting the nation’s distinction in achieving rapid economic growth. “Georgia is a leader not only in the region but also in Europe when it comes to economic growth indicators. Further accelerating economic development remains a priority, as economic strength is a vital factor in advancing Georgia’s EU membership bid,” he stated.
Kobakhidze reaffirmed that most obligations under the Association Agreement have already been fulfilled, with ongoing efforts to ensure full compliance. He concluded, “By 2030, Georgia will be the best-prepared candidate country for achieving full membership in the European Union.”
This address underscores Georgia’s unwavering dedication to aligning its policies and practices with EU standards, demonstrating its readiness to join the European community.
