The Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze highlighted the nation’s ongoing efforts to address the challenges posed by climate change while advancing urban development and infrastructure projects during his speech at the ministerial of the ongoing 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Karseladze noted Georgia was expanding renewable energy sources and enhancing energy efficiency, aligning with global initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change impacts.
He said development of infrastructure was “critical” not only for reinforcing the country’s economy but also for addressing climate change, underscored the necessity for a “comprehensive and balanced approach” of the state amid urbanization and global climate issues.
The Minister emphasized the importance of Georgia’s participation in COP29.
Our discussions revolved around balanced approaches to urban renewal, infrastructure development, and the challenges posed by climate change. We shared successful practices and large-scale projects that incorporate environmental considerations and learned from the experiences of other nations”, said Karseladze following the ministerial discussions.
The event gathered ministers from UN member states to deliberate on sustainable urbanisation and climate strategies aimed at mitigating climate change impacts.
