“As part of the Athens Book Festival, organized by the Embassy of Georgia, an event dedicated to The Knight in the Panther’s Skin and its Greek translation was held. The event was opened by the Director of the festival, the President of the Association of Book Publishers, Grigoris Plastaras, who emphasized the importance of participation in such festivals for deepening the relations between Greece and Georgia and thanked the Embassy for its active cooperation,” - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
According to the reports, the Ambassador of Georgia to Greece Davit Dondua gave a speech to the guests of the event, reading the report entitled Individual as a Main Value in The Knight in the Panther’s Skin.
The author of the only Greek translation of the The Knight in the Panther’s Skin, the grandson of Emmanuel Mitafidis - Gregori Kyriakos, and the Greek editor of the book, the philologist Thalia Kafedzi, and the representatives of the Embassy also gave a speech.
The presentation was attended by the festival guests, as well as the Greek friends and colleagues invited by the Embassy, the Georgian scholarship holders of EPLO, the students of the Greek Diplomatic Academy and the representatives of the Georgian diaspora.
It should be noted that on the initiative of the Writers’ House of Georgia and with the support of the Embassy of Georgia in Greece, Georgia was presented for the first time at the Athens International Book Fair with a national stand and a literary program.
Within the framework of the festival, meetings were held with modern Georgian writers, who presented their books.
The Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the President of the Book Festival visited the stand of Georgia along with other guests.
In parallel with the Athens Book Festival, the Embassy of Georgia in Athens hosted a translation seminar initiated by the Writers' House of Georgia. The Georgian Hellenists living in Athens took part in the seminar under the leadership of Greek writer and linguist Dimitris Tsekouras.
"A Man Who Loved Literature" by Guram Dochanashvili was translated from Georgian into Greek as part of the seminar and now is being prepared for publication.
