Imports of figs to Georgia have increased sharply, rising nearly 13 times compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

From January to May 2025, Georgia imported 29.8 tons of figs worth $185,000, compared to just 2.3 tons worth $14,200 during the same period in 2024.

The average import price of figs (excluding taxes) has also slightly increased—from $6.17 per kilogram last year to $6.20 per kilogram this year.

Fig Imports by Country (January–May 2025):

• Turkey – 18.7 tons ($147,500) – 63% of total imports

• Afghanistan – 6.5 tons ($15,300)

• Spain – 4.4 tons ($20,400)

• Germany – 100 kg ($1,500)

• Spain (additional entry) – 100 kg ($400)

Note: The Spanish entry appears twice in the data, possibly due to separate shipments.

Retail Prices Vary Widely

According to a BusinessPressNews survey of markets and supermarkets, retail prices for figs vary significantly:

• In major supermarket chains, fig prices range from 21 to over 37 GEL per kilogram, depending on the variety.

• In local markets, figs are sometimes sold individually, with prices ranging from 0.50 to 1.10 GEL per fig.
