Wizz Air has officially launched direct regular flights between Kutaisi International Airport and Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, with the inaugural flight carrying 130 passengers, the United Airports of Georgia announced.
The new route will operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The inaugural event was attended by Levan Moseshvili, Director General of the United Airports of Georgia, and Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
Moseshvili emphasized the route’s significance in enhancing travel options for Georgian citizens and strengthening cultural and economic links with France.
“Lyon becomes the third French city connected to Georgia by direct flight, after Paris and Nice. The route offers convenient access to one of France’s key cultural and economic centers and will be particularly exciting for Georgian football fans eager to support national striker Giorgi Mikautadze, who plays for Olympique Lyonnais, especially during UEFA Champions League matches,” he noted.
The new connection is expected to drive tourism growth, increase French visitor numbers, and provide Georgian travelers with expanded European access.
Wizz Air now operates flights from Kutaisi to 24 destinations across 14 countries in Europe and the Middle East, solidifying its role as a major budget carrier in the region.
