
“The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, participated in the meeting of the Georgian-Armenian joint working group, which was held with the support of the Georgia and Armenia offices of the US International Development Agency,” - the Ministry reported.
"The delegation of Armenia was headed by the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Management, Hakob Vardanyan.
In his welcoming speech, Romeo Mikautadze introduced the current trends and future plans in the energy system of Georgia to the Armenian delegation. It was noted that after joining the European Energy Union, Georgia is implementing energy market reform, the goals of which are the modernization of the energy sector and strengthening of energy security.
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia also drew attention to the current and planned projects in the field, which will make the country's energy system more sustainable and less dependent on external factors.
Romeo Mikautadze also emphasized the importance of interstate cooperation for maintaining energy sustainability and stability in the region. He positively assessed the cooperation between the energy systems of Georgia and Armenia and noted that the countries can further develop cross-border power transmission networks and thereby contribute to the growth of transit flows of electricity.
At the working meeting, attention was also focused on the Black Sea submarine cable project, after the implementation of which the energy system of Georgia will be connected with Romania, which creates new opportunities for increasing the export of electricity from Georgia and other countries of the region to the European Union.
The Heads of "Georgian State Electrosystem", "Electricity System Commercial Operator", "Georgian Energy Exchange", as well as "Electro Power System Operator of Armenia", "Market Clearing Center" and "Yerevan Thermal Power Plant" also participated in the meeting.
An agreement was signed between the energy market operators of Georgia and Armenia, as well as between the Georgian State Electrosystem and the "Market Clearing Center" of Armenia on the provision of electricity in emergency situations.
At the working meeting, the parties attached great importance to the cooperation of the two countries in the electric energy sector and focused on the priority areas that will contribute to the sustainability and future development of the energy systems of the two countries in the future," the Ministry said.
