“The Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the members of the World Bank's Energy Mission, during which the current and future projects in the energy sector with the World Bank were discussed,” - the press service of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports.
"Sebastian Molyneux, the Head of the World Bank Mission in the South Caucasus, also participated in the meeting. Minister Levan Davitashvili highly appreciated the partnership with the World Bank and emphasized the efforts, as a result of which Georgia was able to overcome a number of challenges and implement important structural reforms. According to him, the current geopolitical events have shown even more clearly the importance of energy security and energy independence, which is the main direction of the economic policy of Georgia.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation created in the energy sector of Georgia, including the challenges and ways to solve them. It was noted that the Government of Georgia implements a policy aimed at reducing the country's dependence on foreign energy resources and sustainable development of the sector. Attention was focused on the energy priority directions and projects, including the importance of building new hydropower plants, greater utilization of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar ones; introduction of new technologies, sharing of energy efficiency principles and implementation of strategically important infrastructure projects, including the Georgia-Romania Black Sea Submarine Cable Project.
At the meeting, the parties agreed that they will continue fruitful cooperation in the coming years in order to jointly respond to new challenges, carry out further reform of the energy sector of Georgia and ensure sustainable development of the sector," the Ministry says.
