Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, emphasized the importance of mutual respect in the partnership between Georgia and the European Union, though she expressed concerns that this is not always upheld. She highlighted Georgia’s strategic partnership with Hungary, underlining the significance of high-level political dialogue, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.
Botchorishvili noted that Georgia remains vulnerable, with 20% of its territory occupied by Russia, and stressed the importance of European integration for Georgia’s future, which is supported by the majority of its citizens. However, she criticized internal and external actors who politicize this vital issue, undermining stability and security.
She also expressed concern over attempts to delegitimize Georgia’s democratic choices and the pressure on international observers to influence elections. Botchorishvili called for European discussions about Georgia to be based on objective realities, stressing the value of Hungary's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and democracy.
