
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili met with Japan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Ishizuka Hideki, to discuss strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze also participated in the meeting.
Kvrivishvili expressed gratitude for Japan’s long-standing support for Georgia’s sovereignty and the assistance provided since the country’s independence.
Talks focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors such as trade, energy, logistics, information technology, tourism, civil aviation, maritime transport, and investment. Both sides welcomed the positive momentum in economic relations following the implementation of the Agreement on Mutual Protection of Investments.
The importance of establishing an intergovernmental economic commission was underscored, with Georgia having already submitted a draft agreement to Japanese authorities to support its creation.
The potential for a Georgia–Japan free trade agreement was also highlighted as a major step toward deeper economic integration. In addition, both parties discussed the launch of direct air connections and the signing of a civil aviation cooperation agreement to further boost tourism and enhance bilateral ties.
